ARROW'S WALKERS Arrow’s (short for Lazy Y Arrow’s- the ranch brand) Walkers began in 1986 when our family acquired our first Tennessee Walking Horse mare. Thank you Jim and Laurel! We have been hooked ever since! While we love all horses, a flashy Tennessee Walker is hard to beat! Our breeding program took off in 1991 when Delene teamed up with Laurel to purchase Blue Gold, a double dilute, cremello stallion. That was our introduction to the wonderful world of color genetics. “Blue” graced the ever growing herd with palominos, buckskins, perlinos, and cremellos galore. That was the beginning… We have never strayed far from the essence of our first horses- "Fashion", "Star", and "Blue". Our foundation mares, Ebony’s Dakota Fashion and Dakota Evening Star, were sisters bred by Calvin Miller of the 24,000 acre Double Diamond Ranch in Rhame, North Dakota. Both sisters were brought to Colorado and packed into the Sangre de Cristo mountain range. Fashion and Star brought years of enjoyment to our family and friends. Our foundation stallion, Blue Gold, possessed the traits of a herd sire. He passed on disposition, conformation, color, natural gait, and beauty. Fashion, Star, and Blue (and their offspring- many still in our herd) all trace to two notable Tennessee Walking Horses: Roy Roger's Trigger, Jr. (registered as Allen's Gold Zephyr) and Hill's Perfection (registered as Reycliff Mid Merry) . Both of these ancestors have solidified a spot in Tennessee Walking Horse history. The movie star,"Trigger", is known for his kinship with Roy Rogers. All of the palominos in our herd trace to Trigger, Jr.! Although, admittedly, none of them know as many tricks as Roy Rogers' pal! Hill's Perfection's claim to fame was in the show ring. Dr. Bob Womack wrote of him as "(the horse) that launched what is, perhaps the most outstanding show career in Walking Horse history." and "the incomparable gelding (that) went on to establish the most impressive Celebration record of any horse in history."! He was shown flat shod! His son, Sun's Merry Man stood as a stallion at the Double Diamond Ranch for years and was the ONLY Hill's Perfection offspring to reproduce. Our first breeding stock started us off with the blood of these two, among other, greats. We feel honored to keep that blood flowing! In addition to horses born on our ranch, others have come to us over time that we are fond of as well. Our Mustang mares show us the spirit of Native America and the Old West when we see gusts of wind tousle their manes. We are enjoying their part-walker offspring. Our spotted gals light up the pasture with their foals. We love these works of art! Our breeding stock acquisitions have given us the opportunity to see what can be produced- thank you fellow breeders! We are looking forward to our future foal crops! We appreciate each of our horses and their character... -written, Summer 2004, by |
